About Stéfane Marion, Chief Economist and Strategist at National Bank of Canada
Stéfane Marion is Chief Economist and Strategist at National Bank of Canada and National Bank Financial, a role he has held since November 2008. He as consistently ranked among the top three economists in Canada by institutional investors surveyed by Brendan Wood International, earning the number one position in 2025. Under his leadership, the Economics and Strategy Group has earned widespread recognition for the accuracy of its forecasts, including the 2025 award for Best Canadian Dollar Forecaster from Focus Economics.
In 2012, the C.D. Howe Institute appointed Mr. Marion to the Monetary Policy Council and the Business Cycle Council, an arbiter of business cycle dates in Canada. He is also the only private-sector chief economist to serve on Statistics Canada's Macroeconomic Advisory Committee. In 2022, Mr. Marion was invited to become the only Canadian representative as an active member of the Conference of Business Economists, founded in the United States in 1944, whose mission is to help preserve the free enterprise system.
Prior to joining National Bank of Canada, Mr. Marion spent several years with the federal Departments of Finance and Industry in Ottawa, where he contributed to key economic policy development and analysis.

The Goddess Run is a community of women and girls who come together to celebrate their stories, goals, and challenges. Their mission is to inspire, educate and celebrate. This year the Van de Ruyt team joined over 13,000 other goddesses of all ages who have crossed the 10K finish line since 2012.
Drawing from her experience assisting her husband with the Sidney chapter of the Companions of the Quaich, Viola donated her time and expertise to host a Women Whiskey and Chocolate at a local law firm. This event facilitated meaningful team bonding paired with honest moments of mentorship.
Viola Van de Ruyt is serving as the 74th President of the Union Club of BC, making her only the 2nd woman President in the history of the Club.
The Union Club offers premier service, amenities, companionship, and exceptional comfort. And because of those virtues, the Club has consistently attracted a diverse and impressive membership – the type of community movers and shakers who have been at the heart of the business, political, and cultural life of Victoria from its early colonial beginnings.
Viola has been a general committee board member for several years, serving in many aspects from event planning to finance.
Viola has been a committee member and past president (2013-2019) of the Saanich peninsula Community Foundation since 2013 and has been volunteering with SPCF since the early 2000’s.
The Saanich Peninsula Community Foundation is committed to improving the quality of life on the Saanich Peninsula by promoting and increasing responsible, effective and accessible philanthropy.
Through donations, the foundation is able to serve the community in education, welfare, environment and health and recreation.
